Q: I received the login information for the new server – how do I get the emails in my mail program?

A: Please enter your email information in your email program (not at all in the DFÜ – Network, which simply makes access to the internet!). In Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express you find the entry field/box under the menu item: “Extras” – “Services” or “Accounts” – “Properties”. The inbox- and outbox server is therefore simply your domain name (without anything before it), ex: aktualisiere.net.

Q: HELP!! I need to get my emails and not receive them in my mail program – is your mail server defective?!!?

A: We are proud of our extremely stabile server system. A malfunction is very unlikely. In your server administration user interface, above “Webmail”, you can also check your emails using a normal internet browser (without the mail program). You can use this function if you are on vacation or want to test the operability of the mailbox. If the emails can be shown above this webmail (or simply no mail is there), you know that the mailbox is functioning correctly. You can check and also answer the emails online right away. During working hours our support gladly helps you to check the settings information in your mail program.

Q: I need a new mailbox or would like to transfer a particular mail address. What do I need to do and does it cost anything?

A: All of our servers have a well documented online administration (quick user guide). You obtain this with http://yourdomainname.com/admin (please don’t type, but rather replace it with YOUR domain name). This online administration has been specially designed for technical laymen and is actually easy to use. Try it, you’ll be thrilled! Nevertheless, should you have questions, our team is gladly at your disposal! Naturally, the “self setup” of mailboxes, mail forwards, databases, mail listings, web password/account protection, counter, and auto responder within your connection costs nothing extra.

Q: I would like to be able to directly reach many mail recipients with a single email. Is that possible?

A: I assume that you know the mail recipients and that they also want to receive your emails. Otherwise it would be spam/junk mail and would need to be stopped by us. We have software solutions for all customers in our online administration for mailing lists. You can even start to administrate or not administrate mailing lists and allow users to automatically enroll in your mailing list. Our solution is stabile and sophisticated.

Q: What are the limits of your mailing list software that has been provided free by the server?

A: Well, our mailing lists distribute identical emails to many recipients. The gain from that is “CRM” or “Customer Relationship Management”. Earlier, one would’ve called it “customer service”. Your customer database on the internet can save personal titles and have additional customer parameter for selection. You can thus address all customers of the product XX that the following product XXX is now available. This email can then begin with “Dear Mrs. Doctor Müller” (personal title) and will only be forwarded to selected customers. We gladly offer such solutions on request individually for your tasks – ask us!

Q: Can I read and handle my emails about a web interface online?

A: Yes, you find the interface under http://www.yourdomain.com/admin, login with your login information and you can already handle your mail online under the menu item “webmail”.

Q: How large is the standard capacity of my email box?

A: We apply 50 MB for free to every customer as a standard. Should you need more on short notice, simply give us notice.

Q: What’s the best way to send large emails (5 – 50 MB)?

A: We advise against sending such large emails from your mailbox since very often the recipients have mailboxes that are too small. Therefore, our suggestion: download the file on your server and simply specify the link to download in your email! Naturally, the file must already be on your server. So your text link can look like: http://www.yourdomain.com/info.pdf

This way is also possible in the reverse direction: first of all, connect the recipients to an account on your free disk space (which you can attach yourself in the admin range in the login manager). Your email partner can then download this information from your server with your additional given FTP password. Immediately after that, this data is again at your disposal by FTP.

Q: My mailbox isn’t working right, what’s wrong with it?

A: a) Check in WEBMAIL (Login under: http:www.yourdomain.com/admin) to see if you’ve possibly exceeded your mailbox capacity (see Home Page of your ServControl Admin Area) or to see if your mailbox is full! You see the largest emails in your mailbox and the majority of those in the mailbox from the surrounding emails are also in the Admin Area.

b) Please look to see if the trash in your WEBMAIL is empty. There can also be a malfunction if there is more than 100 MB email trash!

c) Some viruses / worms can get “caught” in the mailbox in such a way that the problem of the deletion of all unnecessary emails can often be fixed.

d) Delete the email settings in your local mail program and re-set them again after you’ve established them online so that your mailbox functions correctly with webmail.
Otherwise, simply call us with any further questions!

Q: I have problems with email transmission. The error message says: “Relaying denied”. What is that? What can I do?

A: Relaying denied always appears if the sender of an email hasn’t authorized sending it. Authorization functions with the servers either with “Email after Pop” or with “SMTP-Auth”, thus with user names and passwords of the mailbox.

CATEGORY: VIRUS / SPAM PROTECTION

Q: How can I minimize unwanted mass emails (SPAM)?

A: You can professionally minimize/block “Spam” (unwanted commercial emails/junk mail) and “viruses” with our tools.

Proposed Solutions:
1.)Our servers are automatically equipped with a “catch-all” mail function. That means that “anything”@yourdomainname.com email will be accepted. We can deactivate this function for free and set only your defined and used email addresses in the function. Worms and viruses especially are often sent to unused mail addresses. Therefore, all of these emails no longer reach your account and are then excluded! Furthermore, the sender receives a notification email that this email could not be delivered. Naturally, this email will NOT arrive if someone writes ofice@yourdomainname.com (“office” written incorrectly)! But I recommend this setting, regardless, in order to reduce unwanted emails.

2.)Viruses/worms not downloaded but deleted online! I especially recommend not starting Outlook right away on Monday morning but rather check your emails before downloading under our Serveradmin (brief description) http://yourdomainname.com/admin in the menu item “Webmail”. If you adjust the view so that you see 100 emails on a page and click the general checkbox in the upper right, you have marked all of the emails. After that, the emails that are important to you will have the respective checkboxes deactivated. When you’ve moved all of the selected (checked) emails to the trash you’ll receive more of the wanted emails listed online and, later, also only those loaded into your mail program.

3.)Software:
There are different software products that allow spam and eliminate viruses (ex: also free to integrate in Outlook XP; menu item Actions/Junk Mail or Extras/Rules Assistant). We try out different products with handling and server stability we’re not yet satisfied with. We assume that can offer an additional solution in 2-3 weeks. However, this solution has the disadvantage that registered mailing lists that you want to receive will be declared as spam and therefore could be deleted. Unfortunately, without your participation there is no 100% absolute solution.

4.)RESPONSIBILITY: It is essential (as always) to have a good virus program on your computer, such as Norton Antivirus or McAffee. This also protects against internal viruses that you, for example, get from disks in your network. Without this protection it won’t work in the future ...

Beginning immediately, a virus and span scanner is available for every Aktualisierer.com customer for no additional costs. You can find exact details about this on our homepage. However, your cooperation is required so that you are provided with optimal results.

ACTIVATE YOUR VIRUS AND SPAM SCANNER:

Please log-in to your “Servcontrol Area” on your server with your access information under: http://yourdomain.at/admin. You’ll find the virus and spam scanner in the “MAIL MANAGER.

Info: So as not to configure the filter controls for the mail scanner separately for each mailbox, the option to create a profile with the appropriate filter controls exists here. Under “assign a mailbox email address”, the desired mail scanner profile of the mailbox must then be assigned. From that, the mailbox is protected by the according filter controls of the profile.

Change and install mail scanner profile, respectively:

Info: Please compose the according filter controls and then press “Next”. The profile will be modified in a few minutes and be confirmed by email.

1. Profile name – mail scanner profile description

2. Trusted senders – are email addresses that are known and neither spam nor viruses are expected from them. Please use this choice carefully so that emails from the “trusted senders” don’t run through the virus-spam scanner. Wildcards can be used with the email addresses. Example: “*@trusteddomain.de” would ensure that, regardless of what came before the “@” of the email address, it would be directly delivered.

3. Blocked senders – are email addresses that will not be delivered from the mail scanner and are deleted immediately, respectively. Here wildcards can be used in the email addresses. Example: “*@spammer.com” would ensure that, regardless of what came before the “@” of the email address, it would be blocked.

4. Virus- Spam scanner – with this function activated, all emails will be checked by virus-spam scanner. The scanner detects an email with a virus or spam, will mark these and, depending on the setting of the mailbox, dispose of it or delete it.

5. Virus mail target – with “mailbox” chosen, a transmission of the virus mail occurs in the respective mailbox. In doing so, the virus mail contains details of the found virus and is labeled with “*****VIRUS*****” as the subject. Should “Delete” be chosen, no transmission occurs in the mailbox. The virus mail will be deleted directly from the server.

Therefore, during the first days, we recommend “Mailbox” as the setting.

After several days of checking, you can change the settings to “Delete” so that the unwanted virus emails are immediately deleted.

6. Spam mail target – Should “mailbox” be chosen, no transmission of spam mail occurs in the according mailbox. In doing so, the spam mail contains the number of identified spam articles and the number of permitted spam articles, respectively, and is labeled with “*****SPAM*****” as the subject. Should “Delete” be chosen, no transmission will occur in the mailbox. The spam mail will be directly deleted from the server.

You can adjust the “spam target” yourself. The scale for the settings of the filter is between 1.0 and 10.0, where 5.0 is displayed as the median.
In the beginning, please check on all emails that are labeled as “*****SPAM*****”, whether there are no wanted emails (ex: Newsletter,…) displayed as spam. The lower the setting, the more intensive the filtering. Therefore, during the first days, we recommend “Mailbox” as the setting.

After several days of checking on the filter settings, you can find out what the optimal setting is, in order to achieve the best effect possible. Now you can change the setting to “delete” so that the unwanted spam emails will be immediately deleted.


7. Permitted spam targets – the virus-spam scanner browses an email for characteristic properties. For every found property, a spam target is assigned. At completion, the scanner accumulates the sum of all found spam targets. If the sum is larger or the same as the number of permitted spam targets, the email will be labeled “*****SPAM*****” as the subject. The higher the number of permitted spam targets, the more spam emails that won’t be labeled. A good mean for the permitted spam targets is “5.0”. Which settings are most helpful for you can only be determined through testing, though.

Q: We receive some emails despite virus and spam scanners – What can we do?

A: We have established a “blacklist” with our data center. Because of this it’s possible for us to further perfect the spam scanner and emails that “have slipped through the web” in order to filter them exactly. Please transmit the text and the headings (transmission options) of the email online to us at: http://blacklist.aktualisiserer.net. You can find the transmission options (heading/header) of the email in Microsoft Outlook Express: through opening a specific email click on the menu: File / Properties / Details. In Outlook XP you find these under: View / Options / Internet Headings. Please transfer these technical texts to our Blacklist using Copy & Paste.

CATEGORY: DOMAINS

Q: What technical meanings do domain names have for the internet?

A: The DNS (Domain Name System) produces the technical backbone of the internet and sees to it that data packets get there with the corresponding transmission protocol, should they get lost. Each service on the internet (WWW, FTP, POP3, etc.) can be obtained under a particular address, the so-called IP Address. An IP Address has the following format: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, ex: 192.168.032.232. Naturally, such addresses are not very manageable which is why people decide to “translate” these IP Addresses into a memorable letter-number-combination. The translation of domain names, such as www.aktualisiserer.net, will be accepted by name servers. Therefore, the DNS is needed in knowing to which IP Address of entry of domain names they must translate.

Q: What commercial meaning do domain names have?

A: Names like yahoo.com, amazon.com or ebay.com have been made into worldwide known e-brands with millions of marketing dollars; owners of generically described domains, like business.com, exchange for millions of dollars. US courts have been fighting a fierce battle for years over the domain sex.com (estimate value ca. US$ 250 Mil.). A branch of trade is in development around domain names.

Q: What does “Top Level Domain” mean?

A: A Top Level Domain (also “domain ending”) indicates the first level of an internet address. Examples are .at, .de, .ch, .info, .com, …..
Two types of TLDs must be decided between: the generic, short gTLDs, and the country-specific, short cc TLDs, where cc stands for “country code”. Among gTLDs are .com, .net and .org (often shortened as “CNO”), as well as .info and .biz. Examples of ccTLDs are .de for Germany, .ch for Switzerland, or .ca for Canada.

Q: How many different Top Level Domains (TLDs) are there?

A: Presently, 14 generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) exist with .com, .net, .org, .edu, .mil, .int, .gov, .info, .biz, .name, .coop, .aero, .museum and .pro, as well as 243 official country-endings (ccTLDs), like .de for Germany, .at for Austria, or .gr for Greece. In the field of ccTLDs the Domain Name System should be supplementing .eu for Europe. However, the introduction of the TLD .eu has been postponed since 2003. To learn more about the current status of this situation, please go to: http://www.eurid.org/index.php, the assigned order for .eu – TLDs. The company Aktualisierer Internet Ltd has also applied as a Registrar for eu domains.

Q: What are sub-, second and third level domains?

A: The terms sub-, second and third level domain indicate sections certain respective levels of domain names. Domain names are divided hierarchically from right to left. The entire right section after the last period is called “Top Level Domain” (TLD), what comes before it “Second Level Domain” (SLD) or, simply, “Domain”. Respectively, all further name sections on the left are therefore Sub-Domains, and, respectively, Third Level Domains (Fourth Level, Fifth Level, Sixth Level, etc.). An example clarifies the concept: the domain name www.domain-right.de exists on three levels: .de – the first level / (also called TLD or Top Level Domain), “domain-right” – the second level (also known as Second Level Domain), and “www” – the third level (called Third Level Domain or Sub-Domain). “www” can also, for example, stand as “shop”: “shop.domain-right.de”. As a rule, the SLD comes with a recognition function to the effect, that it enjoys protection through the trademark and name right. The SLD is a general rule of a typical function with the effect that you enjoy the protections of brand and name rights. The domain name itself is most of the name of the URL. URL is the abbreviation for Uniform Resource Locator and shows a complete mapping of a webpage or a web document, ex: http://aktualisiere.net/pdf/servcontrol.pdf.

Q: Who actually assigns the right to domain names?

A: The groundwork of every domain name is the IP address. So that these function uniformly worldwide and so that two people do not prevent a clear allocation through the assignment of identical IP addresses, your central technical cooperation is required. We administer this function from ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). They classify the space of the IP addresses and assign to regional internet registries. RIPE NCC (Réseaux IP Européen Network Coordination Center) is responsible for the region of Europe. At the end of this chain, Nic.at stands as the national assigned order (Registry) for Austria or DENIC for Germany. Nic.at is responsible for all domains that are under the top level domain “.at”, DENIC assigns for all “.de” domains. Lastly, the assignment and administration of .at-domains, .de-domains, etc are delegated by ICANN to the national assigned orders, which have independently managed these and set in place the national rules for the domain allocations.

Q: Who is the owner of an already registered domain?

A: The client, or purchaser of the domain will be registered as the owner and administrator (Registrant = Owner-C and Admin-C) of the domain and is thus the owner of the domain. The names and address data of the domain owner will be recorded worldwide in the WHOIS-database. The address data is openly and freely visible for everyone on the websites of the individual assigned orders (ex: Nic.at, DENIC). The WHOIS entry is comparable to the land register or commercial registry. With some – mostly exotic – top level domains, a WHOIS inquiry is restricted or not at all possible (ex: .tv, .cc, .ws).

Q: What does Admin-C or Tech-C mean?

A: Admin-C is about the administrative contact of a domain. All changes of the domain data call for the compliance of Admin-C. As a rule, you accept this role yourself. Tech-C will register the technical title partner = provider.

Q: I have already let my business name be secured as a (Top Level) domain (business.com, -.de, -at). Can I also register other (Top Level) domains with you (like, -.cc, -.tv, -.eu…etc)?

A: Yes, we have a standard of 40 different top level domains (ex: .com, net, org, de, at, ch, info, .tv, .cc, …etc.), that we can register online for you right away in connection with the respective assigned orders! All other top level domains in question. (Stand: 01.02.2005)

Q: How does it work with "Umlaut-Domains", are they already being given?

A: Yes, since the beginning of April 2004, there have been domains with umlauts (ex: http://höfer.at). These are also known under “IDN domains”. These are currently available in the top levels: -.de/-.at/-.ch/-.li/-.com/-.net/-.info. Please notice that many browsers or mail programs will have difficulty with the handling of IDN domains. On the other hand, these domains will be in short demand and the newest software can handle these without problems. Therefore, it seems wise to register your IDN domain NOW, but not to be used as a main domain(s), rather only “to be cut in”.

Q: I can’t access IDN domains. What should I do?

A: Some browsers don’t yet have the correct plug-in installed. You can either download the download page of your browser provider (IDN plug-in) or simply automatically install the Verisign plug-in that can be installed at http://www.äöü.com. These options have been proven to very applicable in practice. Further information is also at: http://www.idnnow.com/index.jsp or http://www.nic.at.

Q: What additional characters are allowed in IDN domains?

A: Since introduction, 34 additional characters are available. These are the lower case letters of the ISO 8859-1 font, as well as the three characters o, š, and ž from the Unicode character group Latin Extended-A. A list of the new characters can be found at www.nic.at/de/service/idn/iz_zeichentabelle.asp.

Q: Can I change or rename a domain?

A: Unfortunately, no. You can delete your unneeded domain at any time and register a new one. The “changing” or “renaming” of a domain is unfortunately not permitted in the assigned order.

Q: Do I have to renew my domain if I want to hold onto it?

A: Your domain doesn’t need to be renewed. Aktualisierer Internet Ltd will automatically extend domain names for 1 year if you haven’t cancelled your domain by email or FAX within a max. of 90 days before the annual renewal date.

Q: I only want to register a domain but don’t need web space. Is that possible?

A: Of course! You can register only domains from us and assign any goals. (URL’s, IP Addresses, etc.)

Q: I need web space but I already have a domain. What can I do?

A: There are 2 possibilities:

a)You apply to us for a transfer of the domain to Aktualisierer Internet Ltd. (KK - Application)

b) You stay with your domain – host in access and let the domain be displayed on our server. With us you can easily configure your web hosting account that is accessible under the domain.


Q: How long does it take until my domain is active?

A: In staying connected with the most important worldwide assigned orders, you’re already registered as an owner after ca. 30 minutes. The domain is technically active after ca. 6-12 hours if after the assigned order.

Q: How can a domain: business.at that’s transferred to a domain: business.com be seen without the intended URL?

It’s possible to be trouble free by frame with an index.cgi or index.php.

The basics: if the URL of the shutout domain should already stay received, selective search engine marketing should also be possible. It needs META Tags, which are different, depending on the domain. That, in turn, sets a server ahead.

Q: I live in a foreign country – would many German web hosts not serve me?

A: We specialize in individual solutions. Our customers come from (next to DE/AT) Switzerland, Thailand, Panama, Malta, Spain, the Czech Republic, Madeira etc. Therefore, as a payment resolution, next to a bank transfer, we also accept: credit cards, Paysafecard and Paybox.

Q: Do you also offer the payment option of debit?

A: Yes, due to multiple requests we now handle the option of created debits (automatic payment directly from your DE or AT bank account). You can additionally log-in to our book keeping software and adjust the balance or print out copies of invoices. You also see online which domains are assigned to you and what due date each domain has.

Q: How can I actively maintain my homepage = update? Do I really have to learn software programs so that at Easter I’m not soliciting for Christmas sales.

A: Our business name says “Aktualisierer” [“Updater”] and that already shows our own development of an editing system. You will be astonished at how easy you can “update” your webpage in the future without additional software on your computer – everything is online and easy! For 5 modified pages, you simply pay EUR 99,- Setup and EUR 3,- monthly incl. tax to use our Update-Editing system. Naturally, there are also larger solutions. Talk to us!

Q: I used a cheap provider and suddenly my homepage was no longer able to be found?!

A: Apparently, this provider had no or a poor functioning backup solution. Our storage generates a backup copy of all customer webs included in the database three times a day. The mailboxes are simply not contained into our backup system since they would be counterproductive there. The “backup” area also shows the quality of the provider.

Q: I have questions about my computer, on whether I can use it?

A: You can login and adjust the balance or print out invoice copies in our book keeping software (under the link: http://www.daten.aktualisierer.com) with your access data which you get from us. You also see online which domains are assigned to you and which due date each domain has. Simply email or call us with further questions. We’ll gladly provide you with information!

Q: What advantages do you offer your resellers?

A: In partnership, long-lasting teamwork makes a good price/performance ratio!

In my opinion, EDV Support, web designers and marketing agencies will only successfully survive in the market if the partners can fairly have high customer demands from your customers. Q: My server isn’t accessible – what should be done?

A: Backbone provider problems / your server isn’t accessible & traceable:

The internet uses different wire access in order to acquire the desired email server or desired web page from your dial-up provider. In order to establish this wire access worldwide, each provider can use different “backbone providers” (=specialized provider that operates the large international data links). In rare cases, routing problems, wire malfunctions or circuit mistakes in the data center or in the connecting path of the backbone provider can occur. These problems then simultaneously meet a large number of internet users. These errors will therefore be immediately noticed in the standard and be automatically partially eliminated (through shifting of the “switches” in the data center onto other Backbones). You can try it out yourself if there’s a problem in this area in which you indicate the connecting path (tracer) of your data path. You can operate these locally or on the server: Local: click on Start / Program / Accessories / Prompt – it opens a DOS window in which you enter: “tracert www.domainname.com”. You then acquire the indicated connecting path incl. the ms (milliseconds) that are necessary for it in order to get an answer from the respective hub. With the entry: “ping www.domainname.com” you receive information on if the server is responding. As an alternative you can also try out these functions on your server. In the administration menu in the item “Tools”, you get the indicated IP address which is currently logged in to the internet. This IP is suggested to deal with a test of the wire access from the server. However, you can also check any other IP or domain here.

Q: The server database (mysql) restarts – how do you do that?

A: Easily do it using ssh (like telnet, only safer) as root to login and then enter “rcmysql restart” into the command line.

Q: Usage shouldn’t be protected with a password – what should be done?

A: The data .htaccess and .htpasswd from the directory “usage” has to be deleted. Servcontrol hasn’t applied this directory protection there and it can’t be deleted.

Q: I have my access statistics online at every server (under domainname.com/usage) but I would like specific data?!

A: Please click on the monthly overview, you receive the monthly statistic after this main overview. Further details are then there. Staying in that area, you arrive at the log files that can automatically download daily and can read and evaluate everything with (tight) software programs. Q: You guarantee 99,9 % of uptime on your server. How can I check that?

A: There is a series of services that run a scan in short intervals and then register immediately if a server is “down”. Q: Can I work with the front page on the server?

A: We have installed front page 2000-Extenstions on all servers.

Q: Why the relatively old version? Is there not presently an update on FP2003?

A: It is in fact because the 2003 extensions far from steadily run like the 2000 extensions. Therefore, we haven’t considered an update yet. From that, it gives the customers so far bare requirements for the new functions of the front page 2003.

A: After you’ve logged into the customer field with your access information, under the menu item “Profile” you’ll find the option to change your password. Enter the corresponding changes and click on “next”. The changes to your desired information take place in a few minutes.

Q: How can I load my data (Homepage) onto my server?

A: You have 2 options here:

a)You can transmit your data onto your disk space with any FTP program (ex: WS FTP Pro).
How it functions:
Profile Name: A name choice (the domain name, mostly)
Host Name / Address: yourdomain.at
User-ID: The username of your server
Password: Your server password

Access to your server should be established with “OK”.

The local hard drive of your PC is displayed in the left splitter. It is imperative that you please click on “WWW” on the right side. All the data of your homepage may come to be located solely in the WWW directory. You can then transmit your local data onto your server on the internet with the lower little arrows. Please keep a check on you’re browser!!!

b)If you don’t have software, login to our serv control admin area (http://www.yourdomain.com/admin) and then you can easily load your homepage onto your provided web memory under the menu item “WEBFTP”! Click on “www” in the right section to let the directory be shown on your server. Then select the folder that should be updated. If you’d like to place the complete homepage on the internet, please click only on “www”. Then select “data transfer” in the left menu. Select the local directory that you would like to transfer onto your server with “browse”. The transfer begins with a click on “transfer”.

!!IMPORTANT: Your (Homepage) data belongs in the WWW directory!! Please keep a check on you’re browser!!!

Q: What is a CGI-Bin directory and what does one need this it for?

A: With a CGI-Bin directory, you receive the option of CGI Script (Form mail, Guestbook, Forum, etc.) and/or Server Side Include (Counter, Setting, etc.) to be completed on your homepage.

A: Yes, you can expand your account at any time. Costs fall for you only at the same time as the monthly fees of the new account.

A: formmail.cgi can be found in the cgi-bin – directory of your account and is a CGI-Script, which is about the messaging of form data of a webpage by email.

Q: When will the online statistic be updated?

A: The statistic will be automatically updated daily every 1.00 hour and is available to be updated in a few minutes, depending on the number of the accrued hits on your website.

Q: Backbone provider problems / your server isn’t accessible & traceable:

A: The internet uses different wire access in order to acquire the desired email server or desired web page from your dial-up provider. In order to establish this wire access worldwide, each provider can use different “backbone providers” (=specialized provider that operates the large international data links). In rare cases, routing problems, wire malfunctions or circuit mistakes in the data center or in the connecting path of the backbone provider can occur. These problems then simultaneously meet a large number of internet users. These errors will therefore be immediately noticed in the standard and be automatically partially eliminated (through shifting of the “switches” in the data center onto other Backbones). You can try it out yourself if there’s a problem in this area in which you indicate the connecting path (tracer) of your data path. You can operate these locally or on the server: Local: click on Start / Program / Accessories / Prompt – it opens a DOS window in which you enter: “tracert www.domainname.com”. You then acquire the indicated connecting path incl. the ms (milliseconds) that are necessary for it in order to get an answer from the respective hub. With the entry: “ping www.domainname.com” you receive information on if the server is responding. As an alternative you can also try out these functions on your server. In the administration menu in the item “Tools”, you get the indicated IP address which is currently logged in to the internet. This IP is suggested to deal with a test of the wire access from the server. However, you can also check any other IP or domain here.

Q: Search engine entries – how does it work?
